There is plenty of entertainment, but not nearly as much as in Las Vegas. Reno casinos tend to be more generous with comps and return offers than Las Vegas.

Clay Aiken & Ruben Studdard - 90's Medley - Reno

If you will be in a standard room, request to be put in a room on the 16th floor of the west tower extension the part that runs along 2nd St. And there's a free airport shuttle, to each hotel, unlike Vegas. So it's pleasant to walk around, have a meal at a sidewalk cafe, etc. Reno used to be a predominantly tourist-based economy. Standard rooms there are rather small, but OK, if I remember correctly. Sounds like you're a TR member, which means you gamble. If you were coming from overseas and only had time to visit one city in Nevada , you'd probably want to see Las Vegas , There's nothing else like it. People are out and about and there is a smug air of excitement among the locals, who are generally thrilled with the recent improvement in the region's outlook. We hope you'll join the conversation by posting to an open topic or starting a new one. When harrah's is dead on a Saturday night, Eldorado is hopping! We use the bus system in both cities, but we find Reno's is better, because the station is handier, buses aren't as crowded, and it doesn't take long to get anywhere. Staying at harrah's, you will likely walk over there and possibly spend plenty of time there. So you should consider renting a car , for maybe a couple of days. It's very popular these days and is often busy when the rest of Reno is slow. If a 19th c. Atlantis and Peppermill on South Virginia St. You can play there if you want, but don't eat there! There are new businesses opening up all over town, including many restaurants and bars Yelp is a good source for current restaurant reviews. Others have mentioned the river walk and the proximity to Lake Tahoe , Virginia City , etc. Don't leave valuables in plain view in your car in the parking lot, and needless to say, don't stay at Ramada either. You've spent a lot of time in Vegas, so trying something new isn't a bad thing. Compared to Las Vegas, Reno casinos are modest in scope, but offer great value. Log in to get trip updates and message other travellers. We have free rooms at Harrahs for our dates in Reno. It has many hotel rooms, but don't stay there until the new management has done a lot more work. If you stop by to play a little, you might be surprised at what they offer you to return. When Californians passed a proposition allowing Nevada -style gambling, Reno started to fall. Machines are looser, blackjack is arguably the best in the world, comps are significantly more generous, and casino workers are more friendly and personable. Downtown is basically 5 resorts, three of them linked by bridges. The advice to rent a car is good, as a car is not a burden in Reno as it is in Las Vegas. Of course Reno doesn't have nearly the entertainment offerings of Vegas but there is entertainment in Reno - especially on the weekends. If you're able to get a freebie in Lake Tahoe instead of Reno, I'd consider doing that instead, perhaps with a day trip to Reno. Reno casinos aggressively target new customers with return offers. This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity. Read the reviews. If you're a mid-to-high roller, harrah's is likely at least to put you in a mini-suite, which are reportedly nicer than the standard rooms. Grand Sierra Resort was born as MGM Grand Reno and is a huge resort complex with a recently renovated year-round pool complex, a huge theater featuring headliners, a bowling alley, movie theater, arcade, bungee jumping attraction, go karts in the summer, a skating rink in the winter, an aqua driving range, many restaurants and a very large casino. Unless you use uber, a car is most convenient for getting around town as well. If you rent a car and like dives, Reno has a few of them. We remove posts that do not follow our posting guidelines, and we reserve the right to remove any post for any reason. You can even go kayaking on the river right through the city. I call Reno a blue collar gambling town. The Truckee River runs right through town and has a scenic Riverwalk area associated with it, if you get bored with the actual downtown casino area, which is not huge. So if you play the slots, Reno supposedly has a higher return than Vegas, on some denominations. Rooms are in need of renovation and the casino is dead on a Saturday night. There are also plenty of non-gambling attractions in Reno -- check the things to do section for some ideas. Harrah's won't be your highlight, and you should try to upgrade to at least a west tower room. But harrah's isn't indicative of the rest of Reno , which is pretty awesome these days. The biggest casino complex in town is Circus-Circus, Silver Legacy and Eldorado, which are all owned by the same family and connected by skyways over the street. The only games that aren't as good as in LV are poker there's plenty of low-stakes poker in Reno, including occasional large tournaments, but LV has the big games and craps you likely won't find 10x odds or higher in Reno. But in stepped Tesla, Panasonic and a bunch of other manufacturers to build huge mega factories just east of Reno, and the Reno-ssance is on! Join the player clubs in Reno. I want to spend a few days there as well as Laughlin , the later being a solo trip in April along with one with my wife in June. It feels more like Circus Circus. They also have very nice Las Vegas-like resorts with plenty of restaurants and even year-round pools. I assume you have to put in some gambling time at harrah's to keep your average up. Attractions in the area are spread out. Reno or Vegas.{/INSERTKEYS}{/PARAGRAPH} Finally, if you're going mainly for gambling, you should be pleased with Reno. One thing you will likely appreciate about Reno, is that it's much cooler than Las Vegas in June, and it cools off at night. It's the top floor of the extension and its rooms are slightly more nicely appointed than those on other floors, as some are adjoining to suites. Tahoe is more of a world class destination, and though its casinos are not that special, there is so much to see and do at the hotel's doorstep, that you might be happier there if gambling is not the main purpose of your trip. Walking between casinos on Virginia St. Reno is fine, lots of things are shut down. But do venture out to other casinos to tease them with your bankroll. Vegas is our entertainment destination, while Reno is for gambling, though we do a lot of that at both. Traffic gets a little sticky in the afternoon, but it's nothing like LV, and there are usually less congested alternate routes try google navigation or wayz. I spent 30 minutes in Reno on the way to Sacramento from Vegas. Try to avoid staying in the east tower, which is in greater need of renovation. Nothing fancy. If you're going for the huge overwhelming intensity that is Las Vegas, you might be disappointed in Reno. {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}I am thinking Reno but have heard bad reviews. Reno wouldn't be nearly as attractive for us, if we didn't always drive there, because there are great places to drive to, from Reno. Harrah's Reno kinda sucks these days. The area by the river has been developed for recreation and is very popular with all generations. And Reno has some sort of special event just about every week. You can't drink on the streets and there is nothing really going on other than at the casinos. There are also many street-closing festivals that take place on Virginia St. Outside of casinos, Reno is nice and getting better. The rooms are very nice, and both hotels have many suites of varying sizes. It's very popular, especially late on Friday and Saturday nights, but I'm no fan of the food, which is quantity over quality. Downtown, in addition to harrah's there are a handful of casinos left since California gaming and the recession left the rest of them shuttered. Slot machines are loose, video poker pays well and the table games are decent. Since the influx of workers, the economy has surged. You'll get better offers than Vegas clubs. Still, I'd upgrade the size, too. They are definitely worth a visit. It won't be overly crowded in June and Tahoe is even cooler than Reno. And Reno's casinos aren't as plentiful as those down south but I'm pretty sure that any game you can play in Vegas can also be played in Reno. OTOH, we never rent a car in Vegas. I will be going in June over a weekend with my sister we are both in our 40's. Any input would be appreciated. Truly a great experience. Many people seem to like the cheap snack bar, but I don't fully trust it. So sign up for cards and play as high as you dare when you try new casinos in Reno. Unfortunately caesars doesn't spend much money on it, which is a shame because it's the original location and businesses should honor their roots. If you find you like Reno, I suggest playing a bit in each casino as you might be able to piece together your next vacation from return offers. They have showrooms Eldorado presents shows, Silver Legacy presents headliners and comedians , lots of restaurants and bars, and Circus has a carnival for children with circus acts, just as in LV. Try to work your dates around a Reno Aces home game.
